The TIMSS Video Team has created a new website that provides easy access to videos of 8th grade mathematics and science lessons.

This website is a project of UCLA and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The purpose of the site is to make available to the public the 53 public use video lessons that were collected as part of the TIMSS video studies. The site includes 53 videos each with translations of the videos into English, linked by time codes to the videos, and various resources that accompany the videos including textbook pages and teacher commentaries. The site is intended for use by education researchers, teachers, administrators: in short, anyone interested in exploring the teaching practices of different countries. The site was constructed - and is currently managed by - by Dr. Jim Stigler and his team at UCLA. Feedback about the site - such as requests for features that would improve the usefulness of the site - are welcome. Funding for the site was provided by a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and by the Gabriella and Paul Rosenbaum Foundation. Click here to visit the site.

A useful tool for using the TIMSS Videos is available on the Apple App Store – search for TIMSS Video app. This app provides access to interactive functions that otherwise require an internet connection, such as the ability to view lessons with running English transcriptions and marking specific video clips to share with others. This would enable teachers to work as a group to analyze lessons off-line.
